Linux, looking for a convenient terminal

Maybe there is a terminal of this type:
- pressed the cherished combination
- a small terminal flew out in the corner (input field and a couple of lines of history) on top of all windows
- typed a command, executed
- ESC and the terminal went back

Like in gnome 3, this was done on Alt + F2. Is there anything separate? I have xterm on combination, but sometimes it is inconvenient with a window.

Ubuntu, my actions for working in the terminal (standard):
Cntr + Alt + T (opening the terminal) -> typed a command, executed -> Cntr + D (closed the terminal).
Optional: Cntr+Alt+T (open terminal), Cntr+Shift+T (open another tab). Switching between tabs - Cntr + PgUp / PgDn.
