"Letter of happiness" from the law office representing Ansys - what to do?

Good day!
A friendly organization - an institute, received a "letter of happiness" from a law office representing Ansys, like ay-yay, you are not good pirates, you use unlicensed software, let's negotiate on a good one, the letter contains an external IP address, computer names, poppy addresses.
The question is - who had this - what actions usually follow from the Ansis office?
The options for action on the part of the institute are to confess and buy, to give a damn and forget, to go underground, etc. ... you have to think which is better.

It was. I don’t remember the office, some kind of Moscow one.
One stupid pretzel updated the pirate from the official site :) The update got up normally and naturally, at the first reconciliation of the serial numbers, it leaked the fact of piracy and the computer name and user name and IP.
True, the office that filed the claim turned out to be some kind of lamer - the claim was filed a few months later, during which time the pretzel was fired, the computer was dismantled and written off :) "people in gray", which I wrote about here, had a share of this pretzel ...
What can I advise?
Smear, but keep in mind the possibility of buying a license ...

Went through a similar quest. The software was different, but close in theme.
Your position, the software is not yours, it was brought to you on a laptop by business travelers and other people passing by. This is if everything was in a single copy. Do not blame in any case, this is a confession. All correspondence is conducted by a lawyer on behalf of the administrator.
Your actions. Full audit of all software. Accordingly, cleaning and a ban on installation. Send everyone who does not understand well to a lawyer to write an explanatory note and learn to respect the criminal code.
The interest of the office that sent the request is the following, it needs an official paper, which says that you are "white and fluffy" and, on this fact, carried out an internal check. In a month it will be necessary to send a second letter with the results of the check in which indicate that it was an unforeseen accident. This will suit everyone. Then everything will be done by correspondence with an exchange of courtesies.
Of course, all the left software must leave the territory of the institute, the rest must be known to the system. administrator. Otherwise, you will force the lawyers of the representative of Ansis to do unpleasant work with the achievement of results and it will be extremely difficult to settle the matter.

To sue, you must prove the fact of piracy. There must be a criminal case. Without good financial incentives, the police will not do anything, especially against the state office. Those. the owner of the rights to the software will have to invest heavily in events with a dubious outcome, so all these letters are usually empty threats.

A very important point - does this office have a representative office in the Russian Federation? Or a legal entity that has the right to represent the interests of the company?
If not, set up a spam filter and forget about them.
At the same time, briefly poking around the site of the office, links to the free student version of the software were found. Why are they not satisfied?

Ansis is not cheap, it’s better to understand the seriousness
and, in general, it would be necessary to understand earlier
