Learning PHP: how to practice it correctly?

I have been learning PHP for more than a month and still have not been able to overcome the misunderstanding of many points. In short, the essence of the problem is in practice. I understand the theory, in the lesson itself, even something turns out, but at home, stupidity and confusion sets in. More practice is needed, but I don't know where to start.

My girlfriend just recently started learning programming and Java on her own at Stanford University. Sometimes I hear that "maybe not mine", "I can't understand it" and so on. Of course, I try to be as supportive as possible, and one of the main pieces of advice I give her is to do her homework. Sit down, puzzle over, and do. There is no other action that will take you further than this - DO. Just do what you're asked . Prioritize this task - doing your homework - at the highest level. Throw everything else. Sit down and do it . There is no other way and never will be.
