Laptop choice?

It's time to change your old Sony Vaio for something new and powerful. I would like to take a car with good hardware and a margin for a couple of three years. Offhand, i7 processor, ssd disk, 8 gb ram, 15 inch monitor. I would like a metal case and a nice design.
During the selection process, I found that a 15-inch monitor is very difficult to meet the requirements of a nice design and a metal case. Most 15-inch screens have a resolution of 1366x768, which is not at all encouraging. In general, it turned out that the choice narrowed down to Sony Vaio SVT1511C5E and Macbook pro retina. If we take approximately the same configuration, then Sonya comes out a little cheaper than a MacBook.
I kind of would take a macbook, all the same, good hardware, nice design, keyboard, but it's embarrassing that I've never worked with macos. More than 10 years on windows, some experience with Linux. I clarified that all the software that I use is under Mac, except perhaps only webmoney keeper classic, but it can be run in a virtual machine.
Here is such a dilemma, take a poppy and spend part of the time on mastering a new OS, or take Sonya and work in a familiar environment, although also in a not quite familiar one, since windows 8 will already be installed (now I use the seven).
In general, I can’t make decisions myself, I ask the audience for help :-) Maybe there are alternative options that I have overlooked, I will be glad to hear about them in the comments.

My opinion is to take a poppy.
For example, they gave me air in the summer, before that my experience with poppies was very small, mostly fun with hackintosh, I wouldn’t buy a macbook myself, not because it’s expensive (by the way, they are not more expensive than similar ones in quality), but for the same reasons - doubts whether you will get used to WIN + Linux after so many years.
The “addiction” lasted a couple of days at most, and a month later the macbook completely ousted both my lenovo (t520 and e120) from my backpack, where they used to live in turn.

Arguments for the Mac:
If they cost almost the same, then in a pinch it will be possible to install Windows on a Macbook.
If, for example, knowledge of Unix is required for work, then OSX will help to learn the console.
The Macbook retina has a better display.
Less viruses.
Hibernation OSX, like standby in Windows - turns on immediately after opening the lid (coolers are disabled in this mode).

I took a MAC 15 inches without a retina, I’m happy like an elephant, it took less than a week to retrain, right now I don’t perceive Windows at all, as well as working with a mouse, there is such a convenient trackpad that I can’t even imagine how to work without it, I used it for a long time Windows and mouse. The performance is on top, the processor is always busy by no more than 5-10 percent, there was not enough RAM right away, I installed 16 la2ha.ru/life/vpechatleniya/MacBook_Pro_16GBactually became an airplane. And if you are also engaged in web development, then there are pluses, yet MAC OS is much closer to server OS than Windows. There is plenty of software, and many programs are better than under Windows (MAMP PRO, better than Denwer IMHO, the mail client is generally fire, all sorts of reminders, calendars are also good and installed immediately), Reinstalling the system to a new version goes like a normal update, all settings and programs are left You don't need to install any drivers or anything else. In general, some pluses, if funds allow, because. expensive car though

Never understood metal cases. Better from a good light quality matte plastic.
As I understand it, if we are talking about Macburpro, then the budget is endless.
shopap.lenovo.com/ru/ru/products/laptops/thinkpad/t-series/t430/
+ we buy a powerful bundle (there are serious monitors and prots)
+ we buy 16 gigs of Kingston Hyper-X CL9 1600
RAM + we buy Corsair Netron GTX www.ixbt.com/storage/ssd-p23.shtml
At the output we get a fairly powerful laptop.
Options: Docking stations, high-capacity batteries, batteries instead of sit.
PS: I managed to assemble a Thinkpad T530 Core i5-3320M, HD4000, + memory and SSD using this version.
The price came out 33 + 4 + 8 = 45k
I hope it helped.

MacBook Pro - heats up, so it's impossible to keep on your knees. And they are noisy.
Pay attention to such models as:
- Lenovo IdeaPad U****
- Lenovo ThinkPad X***
- Asus ZenBook *****
- HP Envy ****

How many people do you know who had serious problems switching to a Mac? As a rule, problems occur only due to the lack of some specific software. In general, I do not think that it makes sense to be guided by the principle of "take a long time to get used to" in choosing an OS.
Further, it is not very clear for what purposes you generally take the car. If, for example, you are a web programmer, then there is hardly a difference (and if there was, then it would be immediately taken into account). If you play a lot, Mac is not the best choice. Will you carry a lot or a little? If every day, then laptops > 2 kg are hard to wear.
I had a similar battle between MacBook Air 13 2011 and Sony Vaio Z21V9R . I chose Sony because:
1) there is 3g, and this is a killer feature for me. Surprisingly, other manufacturers rarely install 3g.
2) a better screen (both in terms of image quality and resolution + excellent glare coverage, you can’t see yourself in the monitor)
3) RAID-0 of two SSDs, which gives just the best speed of the disk subsystem
4) there is a separate dock with video card and unnecessary blu-ray
5) carbon body that does not wrinkle or crack on the first drop (here I "take my word for it" because I haven't dropped it yet
) percent, a little less weight (1.2 kg), a convenient short-stroke keyboard (the Mac drivers will not agree with me, but I wanted just that), surprisingly very convenient and useful pre-installed software.
As for Win8, get comfortable quickly, the environment is still familiar.
Well, this is so, my impressions, maybe pay attention to some new nuances when choosing a laptop.

If you are still young and bearded , then in my opinion, Mac OS X should present a new vision of POSIX as one of its proprietary implementations. If you want to grow in this direction, then why not? Well, except for POSIX - he has all sorts of other NIX goodies. As far as I understand, in GNU/Linux there is already an experience of button-pressing, that's why I'm talking about it. By the way, I heard that Mac OS X is also definitely friends with GNU. True, I did not check it myself, because. I still dream of a MacBook.

I bought this thing for my wife: Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13
i7, 4-8gb RAM, 13.3'', 1600*900 (very high-quality monitor), ssd, weight 1.5 kg
flies faster, the keyboard is great, it can be folded like a tablet. Windows 8 is a cool axis ("fans" please pass by).
Recommend.
Now I want one for myself (mainly because of the keyboard and the ability to hold it like a tablet).

Personally, as an alternative to mac, I looked after an HP EliteBook like this hotline.ua/computer-noutbuki-netbuki/hp-elitebook-8570p-a1l16av/

I advise you to pay attention to the photos of the insides of the laptop, everything should also be beautiful there. In my experience, I advise either Windows 7 or Mac OS. There was a figure eight on the second laptop, changed to 7. New gadgets are designed more for tablets and in the absence of a touch screen they only interfere. And of course with an SSD.

Experience with Windows for God knows how many years, then 5 years of Linux, and then I bought a poppy and 4 hours after the purchase I was already working on it. So it's very easy to get used to it. The most difficult thing at first is getting used to switching the language, but it will take no more than a week.

Taking a MacBook now, you can always put Win on it, if you don't get along with OSX, and continue to use a good piece of hardware. Taking Sony and you will not know the advantages or disadvantages of OSX for your tasks.

The girl recently took Asus UX51 to herself, if I'm not mistaken in the model. 15 inches in a metal case with everything your heart desires. Here you have i7 and ssd in spike with hdd and a matte full hd screen and a backlit keyboard, which is as nice as a poppy (I haven’t seen another one on poppies) and the ndivia video card is not weak. I would look towards this laptop. The price was 1500 bucks in Ukraine. Everything is smaller than a poppy.
But if the budget does not limit, then personally I would take a poppy ... maybe because I didn’t have it yet? :)

Look towards Toshiba Portege Z930-DKS , a very nice machine. I've been using it for over 3 months now and I'm very happy with it. True, it does not meet your wishes a little, for example, the screen is 1.7 "smaller and the memory is not 8 GB, but only 6. But it is very light and will keep charging longer than 15". It comes with Windows 8, but you can install Ubuntu Linux if you want. In Linux, everything is hooked up except for a few keys (turning off the touchpad, etc.), as well as a fingerprint scanner.
