The question is, how does this shell affect the battery, does it sit down quickly and how many resources does the computer use? At the very Ubuntu 14.04.

as for me, gnome eats a lot of resources and, accordingly, the battery

1. DE does not affect the battery in any way.
2. There is no "Ubuntu Gnome" as a separate distribution. Ubuntu Gnome is an installation disk with Gnome DE out of the box. You can safely install Gnome, KDE, and XFCE4 together with Unity with one command. All packages are in the same repositories and are installed in a regular way.
