Java, where exactly to go?

I watched Vladykin's lectures, started reading Schildt, and I'm trying to learn Java.
I want to hear your opinion, where should I go? Get started with Android? Or look for yourself in something else? What are the disadvantages of working with Android, in addition to the variety of hardware?

First, after Schildt, don't forget to read Joshua Bloch's book "Effective Java" (one of the neighboring questions mentions its Russian translation, so it probably exists) - in my humble opinion, this is a must read for any Java programmer.
Secondly, if you really have to choose between Android and something else, then you need to understand the pros and cons of both ways. I will write what came to my mind, I do not pretend to completeness and ultimate truth.

So, by choosing Android, you can start making money earlier, but "pure" Java, in my opinion, gives more prospects. And in fact, an Android programmer and a Java programmer are not the same thing at all. So the choice of a professional path depends on how you generally see yourself in this profession in the near future: do you want to quickly get comfortable and get a way to earn money without thinking too much about changing activities in the future, or are you interested in different areas of programming, and you want to try a lot.
