Is there an extension for Chrome that prevents the download of file types that can be viewed in the browser?

Sometimes the server tells the browser to download a file that the browser can open in view mode: pdf, pictures, sound files... Is it possible to change the behavior of the browser and offer to open the file instead of downloading?
