Is there an alternative to Active Directory under Linux?

Good day.
In the light of import substitution, I was puzzled by the question of replacing some of the usual parts of the microsoft ecosystem with less proprietary analogues. So far, in the framework of self-education.
I'm interested in a good holistic solution that can replace full Active Directory, single sign-on services and group policies, dfs, and perhaps all sorts of other nice features.
The final goal was to perform some manipulations, such as introducing a computer into a domain, and everything suddenly became wonderful, centralized and manageable. Compatibility with Windows is not critical. It is also not necessary to make the steepness of the MS System Center level completely.
I am aware of the existence of LDAP and have little idea how it works in the AD ecosystem.
I am aware of samba and its ability to be both a domain controller and a client.
I am aware of the puppet, ansible and have heard a little about the term orchestration systems.
Single servers under the inux admin all the time, now the task is to stretch it all to desktops and there is a little lack of experience and a list of good keywords for setting Google.
Who was involved in replacing ACTIVE DIRECTORY on Linux desktops, share an example of an ecosystem.

And what exactly is the question? Global catalog systems - there are only two of them - AD / Samba (plus various variations with LDAP) and IPA. If not one, then another. If neither one nor the other means a bicycle or nothing ...
