Is there a risk of third parties using your ip when using Tor?

Recently I read the news that the guy was accused of having some kind of illegal comment from his ip. Then it turned out that he installed TOR and someone used his ip
. Not strong at all in this subject. Is it possible? How to protect yourself from such things? Don't use Tor at all?

Tor at default settings does not work as an exit node - you have nothing to fear.
