Is there a program for storing a large number of scans?

Tell me a program that can be used as a database. There were attempts to use the Microsoft Access program, but there were more than 50 thousand scans, so it took too long to load and freeze.

It is undesirable to store the files themselves in the database. It is optimal to store files on a disk, and write a link to the file in the database.

There is a Lucion FileCenter program. There, the files themselves are stored in real physical directories on the disk, while in the program they are "translated" into the so-called. "drawers". In addition, the program itself allows you to make scans in a very convenient way, works with PDF files (all sorts of rotations / divisions / inserts, etc.).
But:
- paid
- I have no idea how it will behave on so many objects

Not the easiest option for beginners, but still: set up a server with a web directory. full of free scripts for every taste. If you need to organize everything locally, then see catalogers

scans are best stored as files. Or in an object-oriented database as a last resort.
in access it was necessary to store the paths to the files, then nothing would slow down
