Is there a program for repeated photos from the same angle?

Many have seen photographs where one part shows how the building / landscape looked like in ancient times, the other - as it is now. Both parts are seamlessly connected into one.

For re-shooting you need:
* a camera with the same focal length;
* same point and shooting angle.
Finding a camera with a similar focal length is not a problem.
Finding a shooting point is very difficult.
Is there software (for a smartphone) that allows you to "look" through a translucent old photo and thus select a point, a shooting angle (focusing on corners, lines of buildings)?
