Is there a plugin that allows you to make an input field like in VKontakte chats?

I'm making a chat and I want to make the same message entry field as in VKontakte with the ability to insert emoticons. There it is made from a div element with the contenteditable attribute, but the complexity, as always, is in the details and cross-browser compatibility.
I would like not to write everything in js, but to find some kind of plugin for this.
