Is the battery of the tablet on display really unusable?

Once I wanted to buy a tablet. Liked the one on display. I was told that the display sample may have a dead battery, because the tablet is constantly connected to electricity.
Are tablet batteries that are display samples really that bad and unusable?

Modern batteries are quite tolerably endure this. Problems can be if the tablet was actively used (read heated) with the battery fully charged and connected to the network. But the likelihood of active use of a display sample is rather small.
