Is that what people actually do?
The question is purely philosophical...
Sometimes I study all sorts of sites like awwwards, etc.
I stumble upon projects of this kind https://www.thenewmobileworkforce.com
And actually, as a layout designer with 5 years of experience, I look at it and just wonder how they do it ...
Immediately I have a question, I one with such experience does not know how to do it?
There are generally people here who have done similar projects, how did you come to this? What were you inspired by? Which way to look next?
How long does this kind of development take?

The people and the stadium are made with software similar to Autodesk 123D Car
, except for the screen with wareframe rendering too (just modeled on the screen with wareframe).
Some of the backdrops are textured on the skybox.
Some people - flat sprites with texture.
Transitions are horizontal blurs with randomized strength depending on the y coordinate.
A bunch of such globes can be found at https://threejs.org/
In general, it looks stylish, but this is more the merit of the designers. Technologically, nothing revolutionary. The globe is so generally creepy slows down - it could have been done more optimally.
All this on glsl shaders, I'm talking about the background, effects, models, and so on. THREE.js just to tie it all together. Vue.js for content management. Without knowledge of trigonometry and matan, it is impossible to do this.
Just imagine a function that runs, millions of times per frame, for one single point, and depending on the parameters available to it, draws everything that you see on the screen. Just a brain explosion.
If you don’t know how to do it in principle, then yes, the problem is with you, even after half a year of work you need to know what the browser can do. Well, in general, you can do this yourself, but more often they do it as a team.
It is also very important to interact with the designer, among other things. For all these transitions and parallaxes, very high quality graphics are needed. I have never seen such quality of preparation of layouts in three years.
More on topic.

In general, when you look at such applications in the browser, whether it's an example or a landing page, you want to create and it really motivates. However, there is practically no practical use for such a site, but on the other hand, your fullstack team leader has something to brag about during non-working hours over a glass of beer.
