Prepayment is when the performer is paid. This is normal practice.
If it is the other way around, it would be more correct to call it a pledge. But the deposit must be for something, for example, equipment taken for use / rent.
In your case, it's a complete scam. They do not need any texts, they are busy collecting money from gullible citizens.
