Data storage

Is physical data storage for a website a bad idea?

I am developing a website. On the site, users can upload various files, such as avatars. I need to store all this stuff somewhere.
I'm considering these options:

  • billing.time4vps/
  • en.hetzner.com

But suddenly I had an idea: just buy 10 2TB hard drives and if you need even more space - just connect another drive. Next to all this there will be a computer that will record and give files to the site as needed.
I've never done this before. But suddenly someone does this and it's not a "terrible" decision? Maybe there is some software that makes it easy to get data from such disks?
It is a bad idea?

Calculate the costs and compare what will be more profitable. For example, for such things there are ready-made solutions like https://cloud.yandex.ru/services/storage
https://selectel.ru/services/cloud/storage/

A data warehouse is primarily an infrastructure.
The question is not where and how the files will be written, but how the required number of users can quickly get them.
You are considering the lowest level of storage, which in data centers has long been solved in more optimal ways than what you sucked out of your finger.

Can you think of any downsides to your solution?
where will this pc be? can he work 24/7?
is there a backup power supply for it?
what is the internet channel? is there a backup?
What happens if a screw breaks?
Is there a 2nd PC to replace if it fails?
any such problem and your icons fell off, or something else on the site
