Is Microsoft iSCSI target supported on ESXi?

Windows Server 2012R2 has extensive capabilities for creating a fairly reliable and very fast ghetto storage for the poorest: here you have Clustered Storage Spaces (in fact, a complete analogue of a two-controller storage system), and deduplication, and thin provisioning, and support for a huge number of a wide variety of pieces of iron - - from the oldest supermicro platforms at $5/kilogram to the latest shiny HP/Dell/etc -- which allows you to build even cheaper storage for the very poor. But, most importantly, she knows how to give her storage via iSCSI, NFS and SMB3.0, which in theory covers all possible virtualization platforms.
In practice, no mention of microsoft iscsi target or nfs share could be found in vmware HCL. However, we managed to find a lot of NAS from famous manufacturers that are built on the basis of Windows Storage Server, for example, this one: https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/det...
The question arises: what is all the same with microsoft iscsi target support in ESXi? I suspect that it will work, but how well?
This question is extremely interesting, because. the release of WS2016 is just around the corner, in which there are even more opportunities for the same relatively low money.
