Is machine learning a job for "scientists" or programmers?

Hello everyone
Now I am studying the topic of machine learning, I came across the fact that there is no special programming there, and the main problems lie in the area:

  1. Statistics, analysts, mathematicians
  2. Devopse (how to properly deploy, scale, etc.)

Therefore, the question is, is Machine Learning a job for programmers, or is it for specially trained IT specialists?

A programming language is a tool.
In machine learning, you need to know: statistics, analytics, etc. , without them you are nobody in this area.

The question is similar to the following: "Who is needed for the development of the theory of gravity: mathematicians or physicists?" :)
The answer is simple - both. Scientists derive optimal algorithms, and programmers optimize them for specific languages and platforms. Even though AI is poppy today, algorithmologists are still the most valuable, IMHO.
There is another side to pop-ness - they didn’t start pouring money in there :)

And it all depends on the area. As such, Data Scientists do not exist. There are analysts, researchers, Machine Learning engineer, etc.
The level of knowledge of the code depends on the chosen area.
For example, here you can listen about spheres and differences.
Depending on the direction, the level of requirements varies. For analysts, knowledge of programming is not as important as for MLE.
