Is learning a new job worth it?

Good evening.

I have been developing for about 7 years, I found a good job in Moscow. But now I want to try something new. For example, in sales as the most opposite (as it seems to me) profession of a programmer. Does anyone have any experience of transition and return? Did it make sense? Who can work for six months - a year?

Why not become a leader? Project manager (scrum master of some kind), technical director, own company…
You can try to make a startup.

Tired - change. There is only one life.
Everything is possible. Almost. You won’t dance in ballet, but from a programmer to salespeople, in my opinion, there are no problems. The main thing is to understand what you want. Maybe you will work on something else, then it will pull you back. Who will forbid you.

My path is exactly the opposite, from sales to IT (ERP consultant). So for me, there is no desire to go back.

I am at the same crossroads. I work as a developer in a large company in England, but the opportunity turned up to deploy a marketing company within 3 months with a good budget - which I took advantage of! A lot of experience, pleasure and time off at the main job. Now I'm thinking of going there - well, I like it better, whatever one may say.

If you want to try something different, then choose active work. Constantly be on the move. And you can always do what you love at home after work.

It's worth it. You can try as mentioned above to go to the leaders, architects, presale. Even if it doesn’t work, it will significantly expand the horizons and help in the main activity.

Problems with the transition to sales? No, and it shouldn’t, especially if you sell in the area in which you used to code. Personal experience tells me that when you know how "it" works, it's easier to sell a product. For example, I am a system administrator, part-time I sell IT solutions, equipment, software.
