Kohana
Maxim Osadchy, 2018-02-05 21:37:39

Is kohana relevant today?

Hello.
Guys, please share your experience.
Offered a job, stack - kohana.
I myself write in yii2, I rate myself as a near-june (I heard about almost everything, felt something, I’m sure of something).
Do you think any experience is useful or is it time wasted learning dead technology?
Thank you.

Kohana is more dead than alive.
Now in the top are Symfony and Laravel.
And, of course, their derivatives. This is if we are talking about PHP.
And the speed is correspondingly higher for these two frameworks.

Plenty of sites still use Kohana, but there is less and less work to do.

The world of PHP has come a long way. The developers do not recommend using Kohana for new projects:

But if the project already exists or you are aware of the risks, here active fork:

Any experience is useful, but whether it is worth spending time to learn this framework is up to you. For example, it's one thing to study it for a penny, and then not apply knowledge, and another thing to get good money while expanding your horizons / helping the community.

In fact, it makes sense to work on it. Only kohana herself died, there is her VERY close fork koseven (ko7). Which is essentially kohana.

A waste of money. Yii is a fork of the kohana from the very beginning, I haven’t heard anyone write on it for a long time

If you have a choice - choose Lark or Symphony as a priority, but keep in mind that you need to work ...
the fact that Kohana can say that he has been there for a long time, and then they can:
Almost everywhere there is a legacy code, a bunch of projects on old versions is normal, but what they want and what kind of policy in the company is an individual matter
