As a protocol for instant messengers, XMPP is great, but as a means of capturing the instant messaging market and monetizing the corresponding traffic, it is absolutely unsuitable. So for specialized solutions, it is suitable, and attempts to make a replacement for it, for example, Viber, will fail.
