Is it worth using modX?
The customer has an old site on modX. Asks for a new design.
1. Does it make sense to offer him a move to another CMS (for example, to Opencart)?
2. I am not familiar with modX, but the fact that it stores the page code in the database and for a new layout it is necessary to work in the site admin panel is scary. Or am I just missing something?

modX is cool, modX has a community, screencasts, watch videos, read documentation. And in which CMS you do not need to work in the admin panel? modX is cool, google it.

the main thing is not to accidentally overwrite the changes made to the file from the admin panel. if the file has been changed, then in the mod, first press f5 then everything else
I don't like that it is necessary to typeset in the admin panel
Little information on the site. But most often you don't need to change the CMS. MODX is a good move. And at the time of development, you can move the scripts to files.
