For a long time there has been a desire to register a site about your city as a media. It has been working for a long time, but does not have a permanent editor. I mainly work with it + I connected a blog engine and it publishes videos of its own production by a local TV company and text news from several organizations.
In general, does it make sense to register a site as a media. What are the disadvantages of this? I would like to start by learning about someone else's experience.
Site of the city and region. Works since 2002 practically on personal interest. The population of the city and the region is about 50 thousand people.

if you want to be covered by the media law, and also if you (the project) are taken legally seriously, then I think it's worth it. As for the rest, I don't see the point.

Registering as a media opens some doors, including official accreditations, which is usually the main goal of such registrations, but automatically includes media law, which is a double-edged weapon: responsibility for what is said, the ability to be held accountable, reputational claims.
True, the lack of registration as a mass media does not eliminate all of the above, only complicating it, because if you want, then everything is possible.

What for? I have a small guide to education.

2. Status and ease of communication
On the example of educational institutions, they do not care. It is enough to see that the site is a quality resource, and also to find out that you can draw up an agreement with a legal entity. face and pay by bank transfer. They never asked about registering as a media :)
Now, if you wrote for the sake of what you are starting this for ... otherwise I think you don’t really need it either :) ( IMHO )
