Is it worth learning php?

Hello, I have a dilemma, I really wanted to become a java junior, but then, by the will of fate, the work of supporting a ready-made site using mvc and the opencart engine turned up. To be honest, I don’t really want to learn php, but suddenly at work they will be asked to change the structure or do something else (I know html css at the level I made a website for the university). Actually the question is what knowledge is needed in order to be able to safely do whatever I want with the site.

PHP is worth learning. This is a cutting edge technology.
Opencart is not.

If it turns out with Java, then don’t get fooled by this opencart, especially support)) you will still sit on bug fixing in Java outsourcing, maybe for more than one year.
In general, the answer is banal: enough basic knowledge of php + fakie-docs for opencart
once they take it without experience, then there should be a minimum of requirements.
"you could safely do whatever you want with the site" --- I think it depends on what you want.

Sufficient.
Learning PHP is pretty easy.
Syntax and general principle and a cloud of functions from the documentation on php.net

It should be understood that PHP and Opencart are different things.
PHP is a language.
Opencart is a program that is written on it.
To use the program, you do not need to know the language in which it is written. You need to know the program.

Why learn PHP? Want money Ruby or C# teachers. You will receive more. Work less.
And do not listen to advisers who only know PHP.

Learn to code. PHP, Ruby, C++, Java... What's the difference, well, someone is learning C# and other semi-soft stuff... Good Programmers are paid well and they don't ask about the language, the language is the lot of coders (like me ^_^)...
PS Well, php is simple, it can come in handy not only on the web, but also for server scripts, which it copes with effortlessly (without comparison with python / ruby / bash ... they do everything) As for the engine and other things, then there is knowledge engine architecture is more needed than knowledge of php, since you will basically pull the written methods.

If you know Java, learning PHP will not be very difficult. Read a little on rnr and opencart, and learn the rest in the process of work
