Is or is not - time will tell.
Kotlin is not the first (and probably not the last) language that uses jvm (Proof: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_JVM_Languages ) and none of them is a "replacement", although they occupy a certain niche.
Worth it or not, no one will answer this question. This is a very personal question. Looking for what? To get a job? Start your project? Stretch your brains?
Not worth it. Kotlin will not go far without java, only in conjunction with java it makes sense, because without java Kotlin does not have a normal ecosystem of libraries (at least for now), frameworks and other goodies. It's just sugary hype language. They kind of want to go beyond the jvm and stuff, ok, but not now. Will replace? We really need to try and offer our alternative rich ecosystem of libraries and something else besides sugar.
And why then Kotlin, but not Scala???
For work purposes, no.
Java is in demand.
And this is for a long time.
For the purpose of self-development - yes.
What difference does it make what other technologies you know or not.
Kotlin is quite self-sufficient even without Java.
I studied Kotlin without knowing Java, here on this resource Kotlin Manual , everything is written there quite easily, I think it will not be difficult to learn Kotlin
