IT education

Is it worth it to leave the university to go into self-education, developing as a programmer in the IT field?

Now the question is whether it is worth going to university and getting a higher education (Future specialty - "Information Security", distance learning). More precisely, the question is, do I need it. There are many things I can learn on my own.
The only embarrassing thing is that when applying for a job somewhere they can ask for a diploma of higher education. And it's very difficult to get promoted without a diploma.
Maybe you should change the university / direction / specialty?
And which university in Russia (maybe online education) or, as a last resort, abroad to choose?
I would like to hear your opinion on this matter. Thank you.

Get the education you're already getting. At least if the alternative is correspondence/distance education. Without education is also not bad, but try to "squeeze" out of it the maximum of what you think you need. I have two higher degrees, but they are useless ... Both are not in the direction of IT, but I work in IT =)))

A college degree certainly doesn't hurt. For self-education, it is enough to turn on the Internet: there are a lot of courses, for example, intuit. If "English is not bad" then there are coursera and other resources.
To gain practical experience, tk. study part-time, in parallel with your studies you can get a job somewhere as a junior.
