Startups

Is it worth it to implement the idea?

Quite often I travel the world by car (I rent it) and somehow during the next trip the idea of a startup arose.

What if we create a website where anyone can post a video of their journey by car from one point to another? To do this, at the beginning of the trip, you need to attach a mini-camera (gopro or analogues) to the side glass and, after filling the memory card, change it to a new one. After the trip, he needs to upload all the information to the site where the video editing and publication on the site will already be carried out.

I want to set up my own hosting, until I found 1Gbit 100Tb of traffic for $ 200 / month, monetization through advertising after gaining good traffic.

I plan to start making videos myself, and also ask friends and friends of friends to give them a gopro and several 64GB cards beforehand. I think many will agree to hold the camera on the glass and charge in the cigarette lighter in exchange for an unforgettable video of their trip on the net.

When you enter the site, you will be able to view all available video routes from one point to another, as well as selected short videos (some pieces of shooting with especially interesting moments).

What do you think about the idea? Does such a startup have the right to exist?

The speakers above have already unsubscribed what should not be done. I will tell you this:
No one can decide for you to do or not to do. Most here will say "garbage", but when the project takes off, they will be the first to run to use it.
With your question, you want to shift part of the responsibility for the decision to anonymous people, and this is bad practice. Good practice is to study the market, needs, solvency, etc. Only on the basis of these data can a decision be made on whether it is worth it or not.

It's easier to write down GPS coordinates and ride them in Google panoramas

Imagine that a thousand people sent you a 3-hour video. Who will be doing the installation?
The bottom line is that it is very difficult to monetize such a thing in order to at least recoup the costs.

I once had a slightly modified idea.
I don’t know how about just driving a car, albeit to “beautiful places”, but if a person is doing something more or less extreme or unusual, then let him have a device with a camera on which the application will stand. The following will go to the web: audio-video stream, gps-coordinates and other characteristics (speed, altitude, etc.). All this can be viewed in real time on the page - a kind of TsUP :) In terms of the letter U, which in this abbreviation means "management" - well, of course, comments, chats and other social.
The only thing left is as @begemot_sun pointed out, to explore whether it would be interesting to watch in real time: snowboarders, cyclists , paragliders , skydivers. to recharge the device)
And by the way, there is this , I found it 3 years ago, clicked on different places on the route, it’s quite interesting.

bullshit. 90% of the videos can be in the top, and if the videos are good, I personally and I like to watch travel notes with photos, I will not use this site

See what they do based on Google panoramas:

Given the coverage of the planet by their panoramas, you have little new to offer.
I think if you shoot, then in 3D, for new devices, like the Oculus Rift.

Long Journeys are long videos lasting several hours. According to research, people are more willing to watch short videos that are several minutes long, I won’t tell you the exact data, but they are easy to find on the Internet. Again, the question is whether it is generally interesting to watch an amateur video, in which there is only a road and, for example, trees. According to other studies, on YouTube, other things being equal, videos with a live person in the frame, preferably a face, are more popular. In general, I think the question here is the quality of the content of this service, whether it will be of interest to users in the form in which it is offered. Speaking more broadly, the video that we are watching should awaken some kind of emotion in us, then it will be interesting. The video recorded by me will in any case awaken an emotion in me - nostalgia, accordingly, it will be interesting to me in any case. Whether it will be interesting to you - my viewer, probably already depends on how much I can convey to you, using the artistic means available to me, some information that can awaken some emotion in you.

I tried to do something similar in 2008 - I didn't have the endurance, knowledge and money. Do not listen to anyone. Only, of course, the user should be able to "travel" through the video - "I want to watch the video from 150 km. of the M-9 highway to 170 km. of the M-9 highway
