Both types will provide access to resources blocked in the country, there is no even minimal anonymity in both options either.
There are some advantages in the form of fine tuning on your VPS, but this is not your case.

So you have full control over traffic, logs, services, etc. Among other things, you can attach all sorts of convenient things to this, like your own mail server (if you have your own domain), removing ads at the DNS level (AdGuard or PiHole) + DOH, you can raise your file storage, etc.
