Is it time to send rel="next/prev" to the dustbin of history?

I noticed a couple of articles about the fact that supposedly Google no longer uses rel="next/prev" as an indexing factor.
Is it worth cutting out everything related to it from the code? It quite significantly complicates the application, since it made the pagination of the view /section/page/2exclusively for Google. Remove?
