Is it possible to work with Git on a remote server without PHPStorm installed locally?

I have a remote server with Git installed. There is a local computer on which PHPStorm is installed. Is it necessary to have Git installed locally on the computer, or will PHPStorm be able to work with it installed on a remote server, where the project itself is hosted? And if this is real, then tell me how to do it or what manual to read.
