Is it possible to work comfortably with an external hard drive via USB 3.0 as the main, system one, and what kind of drive is needed?
I have one USB 3.0 port on my laptop.
I don’t know which port exactly, but it seems to be the youngest of the third ones :) The laptop is already old, USB 3.0 ports had just appeared then.
I have an idea: connect a second hard drive to this port (I have a small SSD inside), but I'm not sure if USB 3.0 speed is enough to comfortably work with such a drive.
Who has experience - what do you say, is it worth taking such a disk, and will I not constantly curse at the "damned brakes"? )))
I repeat: the disk is NOT for backup, but just for work. Maybe I’ll even make it systemic , I don’t know yet.
2. And the same question, but if I connect an external screw via a USB hub (I have only one port, and the second one is occupied by a mouse :) )
I hope I didn't explain the issue too confusingly.
Thank you.

As a primary drive, it's a bad idea. Usb is a stupid interface for such things and it's not about linear speed. It will work, but something like that trolleybus made from a loaf of bread.
If you have the money to buy an external drive, the question arises, why not just buy a larger internal SSD?
All normal external hard drives from WD or Seagate support the UAS profile, it will not be much slower than SATA directly. Another thing is that running programs from an HDD will be noticeably slower than from an SSD. Plus, the possible risks of a sudden disconnection of the wire and failure of data on an external drive should not be discounted. As already mentioned, it is better to upgrade the SSD. Yes, the volumes will be less than that of an external HDD for the same money, but faster and more reliable. Still, the destiny of external HDDs is the storage of movies, backups.
