Is it possible to use pseudo-classes when composing emails?

In particular, I'm wondering if it's possible to make the background image change in the letter when hovering over the :hover block?

It is forbidden. None of the popular mailers support this.

Best of all, this is supported by the Apple mailer. There are media queries, and :hover, and :active, and :focused, and :checked. You can make it so that it will look like JS was used in the letter. Unfortunately, this will only work for apple owners, unless, of course, they check mail from third-party applications such as Mail.ru.
PS I checked it personally - it works. For example, here it is written how to do this www.pressreader.com/australia/net-magazine-the-voi...
I have not tried this with GMail, but here they write that it is possible freshinbox.com/blog/interactive-emails -in-gmail-us...
