Is it possible to use beautiful pictures for controls in modern UI (windows8)?

There are such UI Kit things that include a set of elements for building an interface, in other words, pictures of buttons, sliders, headings, dialogs, and more.
Question: how to attach controls to these images in the web interface, in iOS or in Windows?
And is it possible to use beautiful pictures for controls in modern UI (windows8) or only standard xaml?
