Is it possible to talk on Skype via GPRS (6 kb/s)?

I use the Internet via GPRS, i.e. about 6 kilobytes per second. Accidentally tried to make a Skype video call (from phone, Android 5.0).
The result - the audio conversation goes without problems, interference, like a regular phone.
Video - I do not see the interlocutor, he sees my picture (ie my video) blurry, but quite decent (you can recognize the interlocutor).
Question? Is this possible at the above speed or is it some kind of hole (feature) in my provider?
I've always felt like I needed 2-3 times the speed just for an audio conversation. Or is it not?

For audio, six to eight kilobits is enough - modern compressors like Speex do wonders.

Telephone lines use 8 kbps - this speed can provide voice transmission with almost no loss and distortion (see Kotelnikov's theorem). In general, speed affects only quality. Even 4 Kbps will be enough for the speech to be understood and the interlocutor to be more or less recognizable by voice. (Do not forget that Skype also has "technical" traffic, in addition to the actual voice.)
