Is it possible to rename ppp0/ppp1 interfaces?

Using iproute2, you can give meaningful names to your network interfaces. This works for eth, br, tun/tap - basically everything except ppp. pppd has a parameter unit, but it allows you to set only a number, and it does not allow you to do something like ppp.ukrtelecom instead of ppp0.
Is there a way to somehow set meaningful names for ppp interfaces? Theoretically iproute2 has the ability to rename any interface, but I'm not sure if renaming an interface in some /etc/ppp/ip-up script is a good idea and won't break pppd/pppoe.

udev won't help?
for network cards, he can definitely set any names on the poppy, he has not encountered ppp for a long time, and therefore did not look.
look in his direction.
