Is it possible to put ads on the black bars in the video?

Today, while watching a movie, I thought why there is no advertising yet prntscr.com/f2se2q , there seem to be places, as I understand it, you just need to make your own flash player. How have they not yet managed to shove ads there or is it difficult.

As far as I understand, the stripes do not belong to the size of the video frame, i.e. the video is displayed in full. The output is carried out on the panel, which really has free spaces above and below, so that the renderer (DirectShow, Media Foundation) can easily send any information there.
