Is it possible to limit the functionality by subscription?

I've been looking at different options for monetizing the app and more and more I'm coming to the conclusion that a subscription would be almost ideal. Tell me, is it possible to limit the possibilities in the application through a subscription? And how bad/good is that?

Actually, that's what it's usually used for.

Open any shareware application, it will definitely have the words opposite some feature: "only available in the PRO version", or something similar.
