Is it possible to limit cpu usage to a single script?

A fairly powerful VPS server hosts (more than one) website on Wordpress + WooCommerce. A script that imports a large number of records uses all the resources of the processor allocated to the site, because of which the entire site freezes for the duration of the script.
Is there a way to limit the script load on the site?
