Is it possible to install Mac OS X on Macbook intel core 2 duo 2008 with Windows 8?

I bought a Mac for 1 thousand in a broken state, I'm trying to restore it. I have a couple of questions:
1) is it possible to put the system on an external hard drive and turn on the Mac from it?
2) what OS is better to deliver if it is possible?
3)What kind of hard drive is needed for this Macbook?

1. You don't even have to try. Your MBP lacks USB3.0 and Thunderbolt - the speed will be worse than ever.
2. The model is quite old, so Win7/Win8 and modern versions of Mac OS X will not be fun without an upgrade.
3. Search for your model at https://www.ifixit.com/Device/MacBook_Pro and select the appropriate components.
