Is it possible to increase inodes on VPS hosting (KVM and OpenVZ)?

Is it possible to increase inodes on VPS hosting (KVM and OpenVZ)?
For example, using dd to create a volume file, format it with mkfs with the desired number of inodes. And then mount via mount .
Will it work? Or are there some nuances?

OpenVZ
mount failed: Unknown error -1
KVM
