Is it possible to force thunderbird to expose distribution groups from AD?

We have Exchange with a bunch of distribution groups in the GAL, which are taken from AD. We have certificates for all users.

When MS Outlook sends an encrypted message to the address of a distribution group, it opens the group, gets out all those who are part of it and checks for their certificates, and then sends it.
When Thunderbird sends an encrypted message to a distribution group address - it doesn't fucking do it! And stupidly searches for the certificate with the group address.
The question is - is there any possibility, setting, paid or free plug-in, even if the devil is bald - so that TB behaves like Outlook?
