Is it possible to disable adding trailing spaces for Oracle?

Hello.
I use Hibernate to work with Oracle database.
There is a problem when adding string records.
For example, there is an NNN column with the NCHAR type of size 44.
When filling in this field, less than the specified size (for example: "AAAAA"), oracle itself adds spaces to the end of the string, up to the maximum specified size (it turns out: "AAAAA________________", where the underscore indicates space).
Can this be disabled or bypassed?
