Is it possible to customize the display of a LaTeX document in pdf?

I recently started to learn LaTeX and came across this thing:
In the first screenshot, the page of the tutorial in pdf format, in the second one is my document in pdf format, both are laid out in LaTeX. But in my document, something creepy is going on with the selection. How can I fix this?

The font is most likely Computer Modern, and the problem was solved by installing the cm-super package.
