Many programs leave license information in their executable files (and you will probably never find them), which means that there is a risk of getting caught, and depending on the country where you are, the punishment can be quite serious.
If you do it for yourself, then nothing will happen to you until they know about it, if you are going to spread it somewhere (or even worse, sell), it’s better not to.
