Is it possible to connect via ssh without a router over a LAN?

I moved to a new place for a while and took with me a laptop (windows) and a raspberry. The question immediately arose, how can I connect via ssh to it. There is a cable, but I can’t even imagine how to find the ip of a raspberry, and is it generally possible directly from the wan port to the wan port?

Hello! I understand that it's too late, but I did it under Windows:
1) Use the cable to use a crossover, as you were thrown off above and connect the raspberry to the laptop
2) Go to the properties of the wifi adapter, there is a checkmark something like "Allow other networks to use the Internet connection of this network " and choose your ethernet connection, it puts you 192.168.137.1 on your ethernet and gives you an ip for raspberry
3) Use putty to connect host: raspberrypi.mshome.net port:22
