The connector is not only combined with power, but where the key goes under SATA there are conductors for SAS commands, the difference lies in the difference between the SATA and SCSI commands protocols. Therefore, file modification will not give you anything, the SATA controller will not detect the SAS disk.

Himself, literally yesterday, with wire cutters, I finished the sas cable with power to connect to the controller. Of the positive only experience and wisdom.
So order both the controller and the cable suitable (!) for it.
