Is it possible to configure the router as a repeater with an exchange through a wire?

Now there are two routers: one - the main one distributes WiFi and the Internet, the second - is configured as a bridge and distributes its WiFi. They are connected by wire. I'm going to replace the second router, since it distributes WiFi weakly. And you have to switch between Wi-Fi networks manually.
Tell me, is it possible to configure some kind of router to enhance or increase the coverage of the first router when connected via a wire? If you use a router as a repeater, then, as I understand it, the connection usually does not go through a wire?

Can. Just set it up as an access point by disabling DHCP. Also, it is desirable to put it and the main AP on different channels.
For switching between networks to work properly, you need a centralized controller, like what Mikrotiks have.

In principle, what is now called a "router" can be configured to work in any mode. However, the manufacturer may not implement all possible modes. Here you need to look at the settings - what is there. Sometimes you can go to the console and reconfigure in more detail. You can also upload another firmware to the router, which can do more.

For kinetics, in general, ports are reconfigured. After a thunderstorm, my WAN burned out. Without having "special knowledge", I easily translated one of the local ones to work in WAN mode and then rejoiced. Everything is possible, the technology is smart now, it’s already a matter of preferences, budget options, a fetish for filling sockets with plugs at home.
