Is it possible to change the android app icon from the app itself?

There is an application that (with different configs) is used in several organizations and each organization wants its own icon, but the play market is against downloading applications that are too similar.
I need to change the icon from the application itself, but I can’t formulate a question to Google to find a solution on my own.
