Is it possible to become a Ruby on Rails backend developer? Or is there only full-stack?

I want to become a back-end developer and settled on ror, but its main pattern - MVC - implies both the server side and layout... Is it possible to write only back-end on it? Or will you have to make up the bulk of the projects yourself?
(tk, as I understand it, there is no hard division in ror)
Thanks for the answers.

Usually, you don’t have to typeset, but you still need to know HTML + CSS + JS.
