Is it possible to add GPS to an Android eBook reader via SDIO?

The e-book reader is the perfect "electronic card tablet". Can hold a huge amount of cartographic information, does not require power to display the map. There is only one problem: as an “additional service”, it would be nice to be able, for example, to automatically load that fragment of the map within which we are located. To do this, you need GPS (outside the city limits, position by cell towers and other things - do not offer). But most devices don't have a miniPCI slot from which you can remove your existing wireless adapter and replace it with a GPS combo board. Many have an SD card slot.
Actually, that's the question - how realistic is it to make a GPS receiver work in the form factor of an SDIO card on some Nook Simple Touch or a similar reader for Android?
UPD: This does not claim to be a solution, but it does clarify the issue. After consulting with colleagues, I found out that the following is needed for the success of the event:
1. The SD interface controller must support SDIO. The probability that this is done is 50% in the general case for a hypothetical device.
2. The system (android) must have the appropriate driver (SDIO UART), if it is not there, you need to assemble and install the system that is installed on the device under here.
Further, the question is not entirely clear, because I came across references to situations when it was not possible to get coordinates on readers equipped with BT, because the system was severely "cut off" and it lacked the appropriate location provider (that is, a software interface that issues coordinates to applications) . Obviously, this is also a problem that can be solved programmatically, but beyond the scope of my knowledge.

On readers, not SD, but MicroSD, and, as a rule, under a cover / plug. Therefore, nothing will work.
